Map Development And Sugestions.
Hello. If you have not heard I am working with Brandon for making the new map for the zombie RP server. I will be posting screenshots here and hoping to get all the feedback I can. I want to make this map the map that stays around for a long time, Brings new players in the server, and makes people want to play on it. So if you guys could give me any suggestions for the new map it would be much appreciated. I will try to answer any questions that you have.

I would ask to help out but i am making a game with my friend. Maybe i could test map compiles?
Suggestions:
~ Make map go all the way to like 2 units away from the grid border.
~ Add a bunker? (I have a fixation...)
~ Add spawn town like the map we had on the server.
~ Add ALOT of towns and areas
~ Perform fog_controller changes... Maybe add one so people don't lag.(Recommending a fog_controller.)
I could add more suggestions if needed. I am a pretty good mapper myself.

Things I plan to add
I plan to add 4 big town's. Some other areas around the map, I think I could get a bunker in there. The spawn area will be different. You will spawn outside or under the map in a room so you can read the rules and what not in a safe environment then you will take a teleporter to the main town.

Hello Andrewsdragon, i am Derakel and it is nice to finally have a Mapper. Welcome to JFFS.
Well, UltMathias and i have been talking about making our own Game (With Zombies) for about 10 years now, i can tell you what i think should go in. So, here are some ideas i'm throwing out to you =D
-Sewers for Illigal uses.
-Police Stations (Civil Service Spawn)
-Banks
-Hospitals (Medic Spawn)
-Abandoned Factories
-Radio Station (Broadcaster Spawn)
-Thieves Den (Thieves Spawn)
-Hotels
-Office Buildings (Mayor Spawn)
-Houses
-Bar (Mercenary and Bodyguard Spawn Zone)
-Super Markets
-Stores
-Helicopter Pads (Most likely near or ontop of Hospital)

Very good. I see that you have been thinking about this for a while now and I was very interred about the hospital idea. I didn't even fathom it and suddenly a rush came to me and i sketched one out =D. I don't know if i can get all of those in seeing as it will be a big map but i don't want to add a lot of things every ware and make it cluttered. But I will most defiantly be coming back to your post.

Even though I ain't a "ZRP" mapper I know that if you make a fuck-load of suggestions the LONGER it will take to create the map.

Hello JFFS as you probably know this map is quite a big project so i'm asking for anyone with source SDK experience to help.
Not asking anything to big just some basic building designs that we can import.
So if anyone has some free time feel welcome to work on some buildings then just send the VMF to me or AndrewsDragon.

You need to state the detail level in which you want the map. For example gm_tornadonightfall I made the diner and the entire gas station. But I am not currently available for making anything at the moment.

Well, I hope it goes well! I was going to build a map for Brandon, but I am also working on another one for another popular ZRP server. Also, why are you using CS:S for the main source game engine to create the map? It would be alot easier to make a file to use it in for gmod.

I would rather wait Longer for a decent job and a less-tense Mapper than a Quick Job. But i know we need a Map soon since there can always be an upgraded Version afterwards.
None the less, i am only giving Ideas of what "can" be added, not what needs to be.

ok the only main idea that i really want is no CS-S for mapping because i cant play thoughs.(sorry dont have money for it) and I like to adminstrate the server but i cant do that if i cant see the stuff. I will be trying to get cs-s next time i get payed but idk when that will be. Also I will suggest that there is a road but a very long and out of your way road that leads to the towns and even in a car it is difficult. Then i sent the others to Brandon

I think that the thieves nest should be more guard able because the thieves never used the last one, they usually used the factor. there should also be a passage to the sewers (if there are any). Also I think there should be a different topic column for plugins / rule suggestions. just a thought.

Me and Brandon have been talking about a sewer system. It will most likely be in the map but it will not span the entire map underground. it will be OK size but we don't want it overused. And there will be a black market with a secret entrance. Also I'm going to make a new topic just for screenshots/updates of the map sense this is getting a lot of traffic.

ok here are some idea. There are more houses in each town, there are cabnites,fridges,a full bathroom, a bedroom, These should be apartment rooms. And if there are stories then the houses should have balconies. oh and i think there should be about 5 random houses in the map and they should have a nice yard.

Open your Source SDK and switch to Episode 2.... RIGHT NOW. Lol, counter strike sucks for mapping Garry's mod maps.

What about a military base for the soldiers? (If we're still keeping that job) The base could be surrounded by electric fences with small sandbags outside of the base as cover while having watchtowers inside the base so that soldiers could pick off the zombies. Also, add buildings inside the base like a command center, a medic station, barracks, a firing range, a quarantine room to keep the survivors in-check, a trading outpost, or more stuff that I couldn't think up right now.
Another thing, I noticed that people chose to become soldier only to gain the knife and we all know that they are suppose to create safe zones. So what about a reward system? It might go something like this, the soldiers will have an increased salary if there are more survivors in safe zones or/and in the military base. Or maybe have the solders punished if they are not able to add survivors into their bases or something like that.
I'm not sure if this is a good idea, you guys decide.

me too derakel well that is a good idea. and here is another good idea. That we have bad bankers and this will go with my other idea(steam rooms in the tunnels). The bad bankers could hold on to the printers. And of course they are NPC's and you can steal from the bad bankers but it is really hard.(all of this is underground in the sewers)
